Akhil Gogoi allowed to visit family
Guwahati: After being in jail for more than 1 and a half years, the president of Raijor Dal and Sivasagar’s legislator, Akhil Gogoi was permitted to visit his family for 48 hours by the NIA special court.
The order was passed on Friday and following the order, Akhil Gogoi can himself choose the time or date to visit his family. He, however, will be escorted by a security force team.
As per reports, Akhil Gogoi during the 48 hours can visit or go anywhere he wants but the entire process will be under monitored by the security forces.
It may be mentioned that the NIA Court in Guwahati on Tuesday dismissed criminal charges related to a Chabua Police Station case that were imposed on Sivasagar legislator Akhil Gogoi.
As per the case, the legislator who has under judicial custody since 2019 had thrown a stone on a police official. The stone which was allegedly thrown by Gogoi had hit the police personnel’s face which had broken his teeth.
During the hearing, it was said that there is a lack of evidence and the legislator was freed of the charges.
The court along the Gogoi had also discharged the charges on Debajit Gohain and Bhupen Gogoi while Bhaskar Jyoti Phukan is yet to be discharged. The charges against Phukan will be heard by the Session Court in Dibrugarh.
Akhil has been under detention from December 12, 2019, in connection with the NIA case (13/2019) under section 120B, 253A, 153B of IPC and Sections 18 and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
