Guwahati: Raijor Dal MLA Akhil Gogoi was expelled from the Assam Legislative Assembly after raising allegations of corruption in the Jal Jeevan Mission related to Guwahati’s water supply. Gogoi accused individuals of misappropriating funds and called for a high-level probe into the alleged irregularities. He claimed that his remarks provoked a personal attack from a minister, leading to his expulsion from the House.
Labeling it as the “biggest scam under BJP rule,” Gogoi criticized the government for its handling of public funds, demanding transparency and accountability. His allegations intensified political tensions within the Assembly, highlighting the sensitive nature of corruption charges in the state’s public welfare schemes.
Apart from the Jal Jeevan Mission, Gogoi targeted the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) recruitment process, demanding the dismissal of all appointees linked to alleged irregularities. He sought an adjournment motion to discuss these issues in detail, reflecting his persistent stance on ensuring fair governance.
Gogoi also brought attention to the syndicate operations in Assam, describing the situation as “alarming” and urging the government to take immediate corrective measures. His accusations underscored growing concerns over illegal economic activities impacting the state’s economy.
Expressing deep concern over the Umrangso mining disaster, where 11 workers remain trapped, Gogoi demanded that the Assembly session be suspended until the workers are rescued. He also called for the deployment of a fact-finding team to assess the situation on-site, stressing the urgency of the ongoing crisis.
The incident marks a significant political confrontation in the Assam Legislative Assembly, as Gogoi continues to challenge the ruling party on issues of corruption, governance, and public safety.
