Northeast Desk, 10th September: Senegalese-American pop sensation Akon is set to headline this year’s Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival, a major music event scheduled for November 15-16 at the RBDSA Sports Complex. This performance marks Akon’s exclusive appearance in India following his recent gig at the Ambani-Merchant wedding.
The festival, themed “Year of Legends,” promises an eclectic lineup featuring a mix of international and Indian stars. Maizie Williams of Boney M will perform as part of her farewell world tour, while Queen Sensation, a Russian tribute act, and Korn SK, a Slovakian tribute to the nu-metal giants, add a nostalgic touch.
K-pop fans will be excited to see Lucas, formerly of SuperM and NCT, make his debut in India with his new solo project, ‘Renegade – The 1st Single’. EDM enthusiasts can look forward to Dutch DJ R3HAB’s chart-topping beats.
The festival will also feature popular Indian artists Jasleen Royal and Kanika Kapoor, alongside local talents Jessie Lyngdoh and a reunion of rock veterans The Great Society.
The event will be supported by a new partnership between Rockski Event & Media Group and TRTL Tokyo. Season passes are available starting at Rs 3,299, with VIP zone tickets priced from Rs 8,999. As Shillong prepares for the cherry blossoms, the festival is set to be an unforgettable celebration of music and culture.
