Alert Sounded in Odisha for Cyclone Mocha

Guwahati, 3 May: Odisha authorities have issued an alert as the state prepares for Cyclone Mocha which is anticipated that is likely to hit in the coming days. On May 2, a meeting to assess the state’s preparedness to handle the difficulties that are anticipated to arise if Cyclone Mocha strikes Odisha was presided over by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

As a summer cyclone’s path is unpredictable, Naveen emphasised the need for officials to work with district administrations. On May 3, 2019, Naveen recalled how Cyclone Fani had wrecked Puri and the state’s coastal region.

In front of the media, Special Relief Commissioner Satyabrata Sahu said: “In accordance with the chief minister’s instructions, we are on high alert.” Up to 20 teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and 17 teams from the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) have been placed on high alert. There is now a control room in place. We’ve talked to the India Meteorological Department about the probable cyclone’s genesis.

This week a low-pressure region is expected to develop over the Bay of Bengal, according to the IMD.
Around May 6, a cyclonic circulation is likely to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal. Sahu stated, “A low-pressure area is likely to form over the same region under its influence during the subsequent 48 hours.”
