All Educational Institutes in Assam’s Cachar to Remain Closed for 48 Hours due to flood
Guwahati: Amid the heavy downpour in Assam, the Cachar district administration has stopped all government and private educational institutions as well as non-essential private establishments for 48 hours starting Thursday.
According to a notification from the Cachar district administration, the order has come into effect at 6 am on May 19 and would remain in effect for the following 48 hours.
The first wave of floods devastated 96,697 people in 206 revenue villages in Cachar district, inundating 1462.90 hectares of crops and 106 kaccha homes in Silchar circle.
According to Water Resources Division sources, the water level at Annapurna Ghat has gone above 21 metres and is currently estimated at 21.26 metres at 11 am on Wednesday, compared to a danger level of 19.83 metres with a rising trend of 6 cm per hour on Tuesday.
According to reports, the river Barak has overflowed into Malugram, Sonai Road, and is rapidly inundating other portions of Silchar and the district.
According to a report provided by the Silchar Water Resources Division, 141.80 mm of rain fell on Tuesday, bringing the total rainfall to 999.80 mm and indicating a rising trend in the water level.
The Assam Government has also created an emergency flight service between Silchar and Guwahati for trapped travellers in order to alleviate the communication crisis caused by floods and landslides that have disrupted rail and road links to Barak Valley and Dima Hasao.
The state government has created a flight service under the UDAAN scheme at a subsidised charge of Rs. 3000, which the government would fund.
