All educational institutes to be closed tomorrow in Guwahati

Guwahati: The Kamrup (metro) district administration has announced the shutdown of all educational institutes in Guwahati, the state capital due to the continuous rain. On Tuesday, several educational institutions in the city were also flooded by flash floods.

Heavy rains have been falling across the city since Monday evening, causing flash floods in the bulk of the city. On Tuesday, a landslide triggered by rain killed at least four people in the city as water logging persisted in low-lying areas.

The state disaster reaction force (SDRF) has been dispatched to the city to assist individuals who have become stuck due to flooding.

Meanwhile, the weather service has issued a warning that heavy rain could fall on the city in the coming days, causing widespread alarm among residents.

Kamrup (metro) deputy commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha in a notification said, “All educational institutes including both government and private will remain closed on Wednesday as weather department has alerted about possible heavy rain in the city areas.”

However, examinations already scheduled will be conducted, he added.
