Allegations of Brutality Against BSF at Indo-Bangladesh Border Spark Controversy
Northeast Desk, 9th August: The Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), a prominent student organization, has accused the Border Security Force (BSF) of assaulting a man named Zirsangliana at the Indo-Bangladesh border. According to the MZP, Zirsangliana was allegedly beaten by Inspector Harish Sankar Rai and his team from the 20th Battalion BSF, B.O.P Crocodile, on August 5, 2024, after he crossed into Bangladesh to visit relatives.
The student body also criticized the Mizoram police for purportedly refusing to file a complaint against the BSF. Lawngtlai SP Lokeshwaran clarified that Zirsangliana was handed over to Vasai Police Station by the BSF, and no FIR was filed as he is an Indian citizen.
In response, an anonymous BSF official contended that Zirsangliana was injured from a fall while returning from Bangladesh and was allegedly involved in smuggling Bawm community members into Mizoram illegally. The official claimed that Zirsangliana had fled from BSF personnel, causing him to fall and sustain additional injuries. He received medical treatment at the BOP Crocodile Nursing Station before being transferred to the Vasai Police Station.
