Amarnath Yatra postponed due to bad weather

National desk, 7 July: Amarnath Yatra was postponed due to poor weather after rain battered numerous areas of Kashmir on Friday, according to officials.

According to officials, the yatra was put on hold for both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes. An official was quoted by The Hindu as saying, “The yatra has been suspended and no pilgrim is being allowed to move towards the holy cave shrine this morning.”

The senior superintendent of police for Ramban, Mohita Sharma reports that the yatra has been put on hold in the Chanderkote district.

Sharma was quoted by PTI as saying, “The yatra has been suspended due to inclement weather in the Pahalgam belt.”

Officials stated that the trip had to temporarily be suspended due to severe rains that began early on Friday. pilgrims were stopped at the base camps of Baltal and Nunwan.

According to officials, when a party of 4,600 pilgrims headed for the Pahalgam base camp was halted near Chanderkot, a another group of 2,410 believers headed for the Baltal camp was allowed to continue.

As soon as the weather becomes better the yatra will continue, they claimed.

84,768 devotees have had ‘darshan’ of the natural ice lingam structure in the south Kashmir Himalayas, it should be mentioned with 17,202 pilgrims making obeisance at the sacred cave sanctuary on Thursday bringing the total to that number.

From the twin roads of Pahalgam in the Anantnag district and Baltal in the Ganderbal district, the yearly pilgrimage yatra to the 3,888 metre high cave shrine began on 1 July and is expected to last until 31 August.
