Guwahati: Ambubachi Mela, a fair or a religious festival that takes place every year from June 22 at the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati has a lot more than just a spiritual belief to it.
The Mela lasts for three days in the premises of the Maa Kamakhya Temple which is among the 51 Shaktipeeths.
Tantric practitioners from all over the world come at the fair for their spiritual practices and accomplishments. It is believed that the tantra sadhana or spiritual practices which cannot be completed anywhere else, it is completed at the Kamakhya during this fair.
It is believed that whatever prayers the devotees make to Maa Kamakhya they are all fulfilled.
According to the mythological beliefs, Lord Vishnu cut the body of Goddess Sati with his Sudarshan Chakra, 51 parts of her body fell on different parts of earth.
Wherever those pieces fell, the Shaktipeeths of the Goddess were established. During this, the uterus (yoni) of the Goddess fell at the Nilachal Hills and the place was named Kamrup. The place where the yoni fell was then turned into the Kamakhya Temple.
Doors of the temple are closed during this fair as it is believed that Goddess Kamakhya mensturates for three days.
It is believed that when the Goddess is menstruating, she puts white clothes inside the temple, after three days that cloth turns red. It is then distributed as Prasad (blessing) to the devotees as this cloth is believe to be auspicious.
It is believed that whoever gets this Prasad is released from all the problems that they might be facing in life.
