Amid Assam Flood: Vehicular Movement at NH-53 in Silchar Suspended
Guwahati: The vehicular traffic movement at NH-53 (New NH-37) in Silchar will remain suspended due to the submergence by flood water of more than 50 cm in depth on both sides of 4-lane highways.
The vehicular traffic will be suspended with immediate effect from the Rongpur Barak bridge point to the Rongpur police outpost.
The flood situation in Silchar of Assam is rapidly deteriorating. Floods affected around 47 lakh people, according to the state government. In Assam, the dead toll from floods has risen to 81. In Kaziranga National Park, four animals also died. More rain is expected in the following 48 hours, according to IMD.
Meanwhile, the Centre has dispatched four NDRF units, totalling 105 personnel or rescuers to Silchar, who arrived on Tuesday from Bhubaneshwar to carry out rescue efforts in the Barak Valley.
