Amid China overtures, Bhutan King’s Maiden Visit to Assam Begins Today
Guwahati, 3rd November: Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the King of Bhutan, is scheduled to arrive in Guwahati on Friday for a two-day visit to Assam.
Reports indicate that he will land at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati via a special flight this morning.
During his visit, the King will first pay a visit to the Kamakhya temple situated on Nilachal hill in the city. He will also engage with the Bhutanese community at a city hotel, where he will be staying. Additionally, a dinner in his honor will be hosted by Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria later in the day.
The Bhutanese monarch is set to participate in various programs and plans to explore the Kaziranga National Park. After a full day of engagements in Guwahati, he is expected to travel to Kaziranga on Saturday, spend the night there, and then proceed to New Delhi from Jorhat on Sunday as part of his India trip.
In anticipation of the King’s visit, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for Traffic in Guwahati has issued directives to manage vehicle movement, ensuring the safety of the public, with particular attention to children, students, women, senior citizens, and differently-abled individuals on the roads, while facilitating the smooth passage of emergency vehicles.
