Amit Shah Announces Road Naming in Delhi to Honor Bodo Leader Upendra Nath Brahma
Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, while addressing the 57th Annual Conference of the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) at Bodofa Fwthar in Dotma, Kokrajhar, on March 16, acknowledged the pivotal role played by ABSU in bringing peace and fostering development in Bodoland. Emphasizing the government’s commitment to recognizing Bodo contributions, he announced that a prominent road in Delhi would be named after Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, a key figure in the Bodo movement.
As part of the tribute, Shah further revealed that a bust of Upendra Nath Brahma would be installed in Delhi in the first week of April, in the presence of Assam’s Chief Minister. The announcement was met with applause from the audience, marking a historic moment for the Bodo community.
During his speech, Shah paid homage to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Bodoland’s peace, standing at the birthplace of Bodofa UN Brahma. “Today, I stand at this sacred land, and I pay my respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for peace,” he remarked, reinforcing the government’s recognition of Bodo history and identity.
Shah also expressed his gratitude to ABSU for their invitation and hospitality, acknowledging their long-standing efforts in shaping Bodoland’s future. He concluded by reaffirming the government’s dedication to safeguarding Bathou Dharma, the traditional Bodo faith, ensuring it receives due recognition at the national level. The announcement further strengthened the government’s outreach to the Bodo community, solidifying its commitment to their cultural and religious heritage.
