Amit Shah Chairs Western Zonal Council Meet in Diu
Guwahati: The Western Zonal Council which includes the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, and the Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, met on Saturday under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The summit was conducted after a two-year hiatus following the covid-19 pandemic.
Officials from all of the states participating in the meeting will deliver presentations to the home minister during the two-hour discussion, and the outcome of the meeting will be implemented for improved coordination and work, said the official.
The main goals of establishing zonal councils are to promote national integration, to halt the spread of acute state consciousness, regionalism, linguism, and particularistic tendencies, to enable the Centre and the States to collaborate and share ideas and experiences and to create a climate of cooperation among the States for the successful and timely implementation of development projects.
Part-III of the States Re-organisation Act, 1956, established five Zonal Councils in response to former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s vision.
