Amit Shah: Delhi Municipal Corporation Amendment Bill in RS

Guwahati: The Delhi Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2022 was introduced in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The bill has been taken up for discussion and possible passage.

The bill aims to combine Delhi’s three municipal corporations by amending the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957. There are currently 272 seats in the three corporations of Delhi, North, South, and East.

The East Corporation has 64 wards, whereas the North and South corporations each have 104.

It aims to promote greater transparency, better governance and more effective civic service delivery to the citizens of Delhi.

The Bill was passed by Lok Sabha on March 30.

The bill’s introduction in the Lower House was opposed by the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), Congress, and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
