Amit Shah Inaugurates Assam Rifles Headquarters Relocation in Mizoram, Calls It a Historic Milestone

Aizawl: Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended the relocation ceremony of the Assam Rifles Headquarters from central Aizawl to Zokhawsang on Saturday, marking a significant step in the Indian government’s development agenda for Mizoram.

The move fulfills a decades-old demand from the Mizo people and paves the way for better urban expansion and infrastructure development in the state.

Addressing the gathering, Shah emphasized that the relocation was more than just an administrative shift—it was a reflection of the Indian government’s commitment to Mizoram.

He highlighted that for over 35 years, the demand for shifting the Assam Rifles camp had persisted due to space constraints and the state’s challenging topography. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention, this long-pending issue has now been resolved.

Shah also underscored the historical significance of the decision, pointing out that the first military camp in Aizawl was established in 1890. He stated that this relocation marks one of the most important decisions in the city’s history, enabling planned urban expansion while ensuring the operational efficiency of Assam Rifles.

Highlighting the Modi government’s broader vision for the Northeast, Shah outlined the administration’s decade-long efforts to boost tourism, technology, agriculture, and entrepreneurship in the region. He credited PM Modi for fostering peace and stability, which has led to accelerated development across the northeastern states.

“Before Modi ji became Prime Minister, from Independence until 2014, all previous Prime Ministers collectively visited the Northeast only 21 times. In contrast, Modi ji has already made 78 visits to the region, underscoring his unwavering commitment to its progress,” Shah remarked.

The relocation of the Assam Rifles Headquarters is expected to not only enhance Mizoram’s urban infrastructure but also strengthen the government’s focus on regional development, aligning with its vision of a more connected and prosperous Northeast.
