Amit Shah Inaugurates First Phase of Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Assam

Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the first phase of the revamped Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Dergaon, Golaghat district on March 15. He also laid the foundation stone for the second phase of the project.

After the inauguration, Shah was briefed about the facilities at the academy by DGP Harmeet Singh. Shah toured the five-story building, which includes smart classrooms, weapon simulators, research labs, administrative offices, and other amenities. Senior officials accompanied the minister and took photographs during the visit.

Shah, who arrived in Dergaon on the evening of March 14 for a three-day tour of Assam and Mizoram, was joined by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

The academy, spread across 340 acres, is being revamped with an estimated investment of Rs 1,024 crore in two phases. The Rs 167.4 crore first phase features essential infrastructure, including a modern parade ground and a museum.

A key feature is the weapon training stimulator, which allows law enforcement personnel to train in real-world combat situations safely and without involving risks.

The second phase, expected to cost Rs 425.48 crore, will develop housing infrastructure and provide quarters for 240 families, as well as hostels for 2,640 trainees and 312 officers/personnel.
