Amit Shah: Modi gave a new shape to infrastructural development in Northeastern region

Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on December 18 claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given the development of the region’s infrastructure a new direction.

He added that the double-engine government is sincerely and fully committed to promoting the development of the NE states, which were ignored under the previous administration’s leadership.

Speaking at the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the North Eastern Council (NEC) in Shillong, the Home Minister said that after becoming the Prime Minister of India, PM Modi visited Northeast more than 50 times while other ministers visited NE states more than 400 times which was not the case earlier.

“Modiji gave a new shape to infrastructural development in the Northeastern region and the region’s huge potential will be unleashed by creating modern infrastructure and improving connectivity in the days to come,” the Shah added.

He added that the NE region is growing quickly and that in the past eight years it has outpaced and seen a dramatic change in growth, something that the prior government was unable to accomplish.

“Development is now considered synonymous with the unity-integrity of the country and development in the NE region is one such example”, Shah added.

According to Amit Shah, insurgency-related violence has significantly decreased in the Northeast Region over the past eight years. He also stated that the Central Government is looking into the possibility of removing the contentious Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act of 1958, or AFSPA, from the entire region.

According to Amit Shah, the North Eastern Region’s security situation has improved as a result of the government, led by Prime Minister Modi, continuing its efforts.

“During last three years, the Government of India has signed several agreements to end insurgency and bring lasting peace in North East as envisaged by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi”, the Home Minister added.

The Home Minister also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his steadfast dedication and focus on the North East, an area that had been ignored for decades but is now experiencing a new period of peace, prosperity, and unheard-of growth.
