Amit Shah: Peace Accord With Assam Tribal Outfits a Milestone
Guwahati: The tripartite peace agreement that was reached on Thursday by the Assam administration, the federal government and eight tribal organisations in the state was praised by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
He said that more than 1100 members of Adivasi organisations have given up their weapons and are now assimilating into society.
The home minister also stated that by 2024, the Center hopes to have resolved all border conflicts in the northeast.
The main initiative was to create peace. Today, we are making progress in this area and passing a significant threshold. Today, about 1100 members of Assamese Adivasi organisations are giving up their weapons and integrating into society, he claimed.
The minister stated that the government is working to preserve and advance the cultural traditions of Assam and the northeast, resolve conflicts, make agreements with armed organisations and aid in their rehabilitation, and promote development in the region as well as in other areas of the nation.
“Over the last three years, we have signed a number of agreements. We have determined that before 2024, we aim to resolve all problems, including those involving rebel groups and interstate boundary disputes “he said.
“We desire a drug-free, terrorist-free, conflict-free, and completely developed Assam and North East region. The Modi administration is pursuing this “he added.
The eight rebel groups which are part of the tripartite peace accord include Birsa Commando Force (BCF), Adivasi People’s Army (APA), All Adivasi National Liberation Army (AANLA), Adivasi Cobra Military of Assam (ACMA) and Santhali Tiger Force (STF) and the remaining three outfits are splinter groups of BCF, AANLA and ACMA.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was also present when the contract was signed. He had previously met with rebel Adivasi factions to discuss the final solution prior to the present ceasefire.
