Amit Shah Reminisces on Assam’s Past and Highlights State’s Progress at Lachit Barphukan Police Academy Inauguration
Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during the inaugural ceremony of the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Dergaon, Assam, reflected on his past experiences in the state, particularly during the tenure of former Chief Minister Hiteshwar Saikia.
Shah shared his personal encounters, recalling how, during Saikia’s leadership, he was once beaten by the Congress government in Assam for raising slogans against former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He also revealed that he spent seven days in jail in Assam, a time when people from across the country supported the state.
In his address, Shah highlighted the significant transformation Assam has undergone, emphasizing that the state is now progressing steadily under the current administration. “Today, Assam is moving ahead on the path of development,” he said, pointing out the various initiatives aimed at improving governance, law enforcement, and economic growth in the region.
The inauguration of the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy is a notable step towards strengthening the state’s law enforcement infrastructure. Named after the revered Ahom general Lachit Barphukan, the academy is set to train a new generation of highly skilled police officers dedicated to preserving the state’s legacy of valor and justice.
Shah’s comments also underscored the BJP’s ongoing narrative of Assam’s development, contrasting the political challenges of the past with the accomplishments of the present government. His visit highlighted the central government’s commitment to law enforcement reforms and capacity building in the Northeast.
