Amit Shah to Inaugurate First Phase of Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Assam
Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to inaugurate the first phase of the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Dergaon, Golaghat district, Assam, today, March 15. He will also lay the foundation stone for the next phase of the project.
Shah arrived in Dergaon on March 14 as part of his three-day tour of Assam and Mizoram.
The academy, spread over 340 acres, is undergoing refurbishment at an estimated cost of ₹1,024 crore in two phases. The first phase, costing ₹167.4 crore, includes a five-story building equipped with smart classrooms, a weapon simulator, research labs, administrative offices, a museum, and a modern parade ground.
Officials stated that the new infrastructure is designed to provide trainees with both theoretical and practical police training.
The weapon training simulator will help law enforcement personnel develop real-world combat skills in a safe environment, eliminating risks and hazards. The simulator is adaptable to various firearms, enhancing firing skills and tactical training.
Additionally, the academy’s smart classrooms will feature interactive digital boards and personal computers, while seminar rooms, a library, and computer labs will further enhance learning facilities.
The second phase, estimated at ₹425.48 crore, will focus on housing infrastructure. It will include residential quarters for 240 families, hostels for 312 officers/personnel, and accommodation for 2,640 trainees.
The Lachit Barphukan Police Academy is envisioned as a state-of-the-art training center aimed at strengthening Assam’s law enforcement capabilities and modernizing police training.
