Amou Haji, ‘World’s Dirtiest Man’, Passes Away
Guwahati: The “dirtiest man in the world,” an Iranian man known for going decades without taking a shower has passed away. He was 94.
Amou Haji, a charming moniker for elderly people that is not his real name, passed away on Sunday in the town of Dejgah, according to a report from the New York Post that was based on official media.
IRNA (Islamic Republic News Agency) reported that Haji had shied away from taking showers out of concern about “becoming sick. However, “villagers had taken him to a bathroom to wash” for the first time a few months prior.
According to the New York Post, Haji spent the majority of his life alone in an open brick hut that the locals built for him after he began sleeping in a hole in the ground.
Haji’s unusual behaviour was attributed by the locals to “emotional setbacks” in his youth. The Tehran Times stated in 2014 that Haji allegedly smoked a pipe made out of animal excrement and shunned fresh meals in favour of rotten porcupine.
According to reports, a short documentary film called “The Strange Life of Amou Haji” was created in 2013 to explore his life.
