ANFT Dismantles Counterfeit Cough Syrup Factory in Meghalaya; 3 Including Assam Resident, Apprehended
Guwahati, 1st October: The Khliehriat Police Station, in cooperation with the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), on September 30 successfully apprehended Altaf Hussain, who is suspected of being involved in a recent illegal contraband shipment hidden in his warehouse. This operation led to the discovery of a significant stash of 9,883 bottles of Phensedyl cough syrup.
During the subsequent investigation, Hussain provided valuable information that ultimately led to the capture of the primary suspect, Ratan Dkhar, residing in Ummulong. Dkhar confessed to running an underground factory in his basement, where he produced counterfeit cough syrup labeled as Phensedyl for illegal distribution in Bangladesh.
Law enforcement authorities proceeded to search Dkhar’s residence, uncovering a substantial array of items related to the illegal drug manufacturing operation. The seized items included 600 bottles of Elcodyl cough syrup (each containing 100ml), 10 bottles of flavoring agent (500 ml each), 11 bottles of food coloring (1 kg each), 10 kg of Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride (an ingredient of Phensedyl), 1 kg of Chlorpheniramine Maleato (another ingredient of Phensedyl), 7 books on Pharmacology and Drug preparations, 34 bottles of Phensedyl (100ml), 780 empty 100ml bottles of Phensedyl, 46 cartons of Phensedyl with counterfeit labels, 1 carton of bottle caps, 1 plastic bag of Phensedyl labels, 1 bottling machine, and 2 sophisticated machines used for drug preparation and filtration. Additionally, authorities seized a sum of Rs 11,790 in cash.
Furthermore, Dkhar disclosed the involvement of two accomplices from Assam in this illegal operation. One of them, named Shaheen, who was assisting in transporting the cough syrup to Assam, has also been apprehended.
A case has been officially registered at the Khliehriat Police Station, and a comprehensive investigation is currently in progress to trace all the connections related to this illicit trade.
