Angkita Dutta Files Complaint Against IYC President Srinivas BV

Guwahati: President of the Assam Pradesh Youth Congress (AIYC) Angkita Dutta filed a complaint against Srinivas BV, the head of the Indian Youth Congress on Wednesday at the Dispur Police Station alleging that he has been harassing her for the past six months.

This occurs shortly after Srinivas served her with a legal notice and initiated a defamation case against her.

Dutta complained to the police that Srinivas had mentally tortured her and had spoken sexist remarks about her. She further said that he used slang and threatened to suffer serious consequences if she continued to criticise him in front of senior office holders.

Dutta also spoke of a meeting she had with him on March 25 at a hotel in Chhattisgarh where he heckled her while gripping her arm, pulled and pushed her and threatened to ruin her life in the Congress party using slang language.

She added that although she had told the party’s top officials, no action had been taken to punish Srinivas.

Dutta said that she only complained about one person who harassed her not the Congress party after making the complaint.

She said, “I am a congress party worker. I have not filed a complaint against the party but on a particular person, Srinivas BV. I have worked for the party and will continue doing so. I wish the accused to received punishment for his deeds.”

Angkita Dutta’s tweet was noticed by the National Commission for Women (NCW). Following that, the director general of the commission, Rekha Sharma wrote to GP Singh, the director general of police in Assam asking him to personally look into the harassment claim made by Angkita Dutta.

The women’s commission in a statement wrote, “Considering the gravity of the matter, chairperson Rekha Sharma has written to the Director General of Police, Assam to look into it and inquire about the allegations leveled against the Youth Congress chief in a fair and time-bound manner.”
