Another hospital tragedy In Maharashtra: 8 Deaths, including 2 newborns in 24 hours
Guwahati, 3rd October: A hospital in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, witnessed the tragic deaths of eight patients, including two newborn babies, in a span of 24 hours.
This comes after another shocking incident that occurred on October 2 in Nanded, Maharashtra, where 12 infants and 12 adults died at the government-run Shankarrao Chavan Government Hospital. The dean of the hospital blamed the deaths on the lack of essential medicines and staff.
The dean of the Nanded hospital said, “Various diseases, mainly snake bites, caused the deaths of 12 people in the last 24 hours. Six boys and six girls were among the infants who died. Twelve adults also succumbed to various illnesses, with snake bites being a major cause.”
He also explained the difficulties that the hospital faced, saying, “We faced some problems because many staff members were transferred. We are the only tertiary-level care center in a radius of 70 to 80 kilometers. Patients often come here from far away places for treatment, and sometimes, the patient load increases, creating budgetary issues.”
Regarding the medicine shortage, the dean said, “We were supposed to get medicines from a institute called Haffkine, but that did not happen. However, we managed to buy medicines locally and give them to patients.”
