Arakan Army Seizes Weapons Amidst Struggle Against Myanmar Junta

International Desk, 14th February: The ethnic Rakhine armed group, the Arakan Army (AA), released photos on Wednesday showcasing a significant haul of weapons and ammunition seized during recent captures of three junta light infantry battalion headquarters in Kyauktaw Township, Rakhine State. Notably, the AA has taken complete control of Kyauktaw following multiple attacks on regime headquarters.

Meanwhile, Myanmar’s military junta has imposed compulsory military service for young men and women, as reported by state media on Saturday. Males aged 18-35 and females aged 18-27 are required to serve for up to two years, while specialists such as doctors, up to the age of 45, must serve for three years. The service period can be extended to a maximum of five years during the current state of emergency.

This development occurs amidst ongoing turmoil in Myanmar since the military coup in 2021, which deposed an elected government. The Tatmadaw, facing personnel losses since October, continues to combat a coalition of three ethnic minority insurgent groups and pro-democracy fighters opposing the junta.
