Imphal, Manipur: Manipur Police have nabbed three individuals identified as members of the Arambai Tenggol organisation in connection with the baffling disappearance of a 29-year-old differently-abled man who vanished from his home last month. The arrests, made on June 15th, represent a significant breakthrough in a case that has kept the local community on tenterhooks.
The missing man, Chesam Abdul Kadar, a resident of Paobitek Mayai Leikai within the Wangoi police station’s limits, was last seen leaving his home around 11 pm on June 10th. Kadar, who holds a disability certificate from the Social Welfare Department, has not been heard from since, prompting widespread concern.
The arrested trio has been identified as Huidrom Somokanta Singh, Huidrom Dipak Singh, and Thingujam Ranjit Singh, all hailing from the Yumnam Huidrom area of Imphal West District. Police investigations pinpointed them as members of the Arambai Tenggol outfit, reportedly operating out of Thiyam Leisangkhong, Wangoi. Following their apprehension, the three suspects were produced before a magistrate and have been remanded to a seven-day police custody, allowing investigators more time to delve into the case.
Kadar’s disappearance had previously mobilised substantial public outcry, with local residents forming a Joint Action Committee (JAC) to press for a speedy resolution. Members of the JAC had even converged at the Wangoi police station on Friday, urging authorities to intensify their search operations and warning of impending protests should their demands for decisive action go unheeded. Kadar’s family had promptly filed a missing person report immediately after his disappearance was noted.
Police officials have affirmed that extensive search operations are still underway as they work meticulously to locate Kadar and apprehend any other individuals suspected of involvement in the case.
