Arijit Singh Becomes Most Followed Artist on Spotify, Surpasses Global Icons Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran
Entertainment: In a historic moment for Indian music, singer Arijit Singh has become the most followed artist on Spotify, amassing an impressive 151 million followers. This milestone sees him surpass global heavyweights Taylor Swift (139.6 million) and Ed Sheeran (121 million), according to music analytics platforms Chartmasters and Volt.fm.
The achievement highlights the increasing global influence of Indian music and positions Arijit Singh as a true global phenomenon. Despite having lower monthly listener counts compared to his Western counterparts—47.4 million for Arijit versus 82.3 million for Swift, 98.4 million for Sheeran, and 112.2 million for The Weeknd—his follower base shows a deeper level of long-term listener engagement.
The top 10 most-followed artists also include Billie Eilish (114M), The Weeknd (107.3M), Ariana Grande, Eminem, Drake, Bad Bunny, and Justin Bieber.
From being a contestant on the reality show Fame Gurukul in 2005 to becoming the voice behind some of Bollywood’s most iconic hits, Arijit Singh’s journey is a testament to talent, perseverance, and emotional connection with his audience. His 2013 breakout with “Tum Hi Ho” from Aashiqui 2 catapulted him into national fame, and since then, he’s delivered timeless tracks like “Channa Mereya,” “Kesariya,” “Raabta,” and “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.”
Other Indian artists also feature on Spotify’s follower rankings, including A R Rahman, Pritam, and Neha Kakkar. Late legends Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar make it to the list as well, ranking at 100th and 144th respectively, with 22 million and 16 million followers.
While monthly listeners reflect current popularity, follower count represents long-term loyalty—a metric where Arijit Singh now stands tall above all.
This milestone underscores not only Arijit’s universal appeal but also marks a defining moment for Indian artists on global streaming platforms.
