Around 200 Tourists Stranded in Incessant Rainfall Disrupts Normal Life in Sikkim

Guwahati: Normal life has been interrupted since Sikkim has had nonstop rain for the past week.

Rain-induced landslides destroyed highways and private property while affecting the city’s and its neighborhood’s piped water supply.

According to officials, some 200 visitors are stuck in various parts of the North Sikkim district.

The meteorological department has issued a red alert in the state and warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall due to an upper air trough that extends from east Uttar Pradesh to Arunachal Pradesh via Bihar, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Assam. The rains are expected to persist at the same time.

The Greater Gangtok community has been advised by the authorities to use water sparingly while the repair is ongoing.

According to officials, the NH-10 that runs from Gangtok to Siliguri and crosses the border into Bangladesh has been damaged by the torrential rains, closing one lane of the primary road connecting Sikkim and West Bengal.
