Arunachal: 2 ULFA-I cadres arrested with arms and ammunition in Tirap

Northeast Desk, 2nd October: A joint operation by the Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles and the Arunachal Pradesh police led to the apprehension of two active members of the ULFA (I) group in Tirap district on October 1, 2023.

The operation aimed to capture these hardcore insurgents who had crossed the Indo-Myanmar Border in an attempt to enter Assam for subversive activities.

The detained militants are identified as Self Styled Private Nilutpal Asom, also known as Monjit Gogoi, and Self Styled Private Upen Asom, also known as Ruhini Gogoi, both hailing from Assam and recruited just last year.

During the operation, weapons and ammunition were seized from the two insurgents.

Despite the challenges posed by the long and porous Indo-Myanmar border, militants based in Myanmar have been persistent in their attempts to infiltrate Indian territory for disruptive activities.

This trend has intensified as the general elections are scheduled for the following year, with the aim of causing disturbances.

Security forces have been diligently working to curb their entry, resulting in numerous apprehensions and surrenders of ULFA (I) cadres in the southern regions of Arunachal Pradesh this year. These successful operations have significantly disrupted the activities and hierarchy of the banned outfit.
