Arunachal Agriculture Marketing Board Signs Landmark Ginger Export Deal

Northeast Desk, 7th September: The Arunachal Pradesh Agriculture Marketing Board (APAMB) has secured a significant agreement with RC Roy Associates, a prominent ginger exporter, for the sale of 5,000 metric tonnes of ginger valued at ₹35 crore. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was formalized in the presence of State Agriculture Minister Gabriel D Wangsu.

Under the MoU, RC Roy Associates will purchase ginger at ₹20 per kg. An advance payment of up to 30% of the total value will be made to farmers, self-help groups (SHGs), and farmer producer organizations (FPOs) through the Board. The final payment rate will be adjusted based on the market rate at the time of procurement.

APAMB CEO Okit Palling described the deal as “one of the largest single product deals in the history of agricultural marketing in the state,” highlighting that it could potentially bring farmers close to ₹30 crore.

Minister Gabriel D Wangsu emphasized the superior quality and taste of Arunachal’s local ginger varieties and stressed the importance of promoting these over non-native types. Meanwhile, State Agriculture Production Commissioner Vivek Pandey acknowledged the significance of the deal but urged both parties to ensure fair pricing and consistent supply, citing recent volatility in agricultural markets, including a recent drop in pumpkin prices in Uttar Pradesh.
