Arunachal: Alleged Mataji Arrested Following Abuse Scandal at Patanjali-Run School
Northeast Desk, 17th December: Sadhvi Devkriti, an alleged Mataji (Teacher), was arrested on December 17, 2023, in Uttar Pradesh for the brutal abuse of over 20 students at Acharyakulam School in Goloso village, Seijosa, Arunachal Pradesh, on December 7, 2023. The school, situated within a mega herbal garden owned by Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali Ayurveda, has faced intense scrutiny.
The incident gained public attention when a viral video exposed the physical injuries suffered by a child, prompting widespread condemnation in Arunachal Pradesh. Operated by the Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust, the Acharyakulam School, in existence for two years, is reportedly not recognized by the government.
Responding to the public outcry, the Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust terminated Sadhvi Devkriti’s services on December 10. In protest, the All Pakke Kesang District Students Union (APKDSU) organized a peaceful rally on December 12, demanding strict punishment for the accused under the Right to Education Act 2009 and other relevant laws.
Confirming the arrest, SP of Pakke Kesang, Tasi Darang, stated, “On December 10, 2023, we registered a case under Article 342/323 IPC and provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act. After identifying the accused Sadhvi in a viral video, a team was dispatched to arrest her in Uttar Pradesh. She was produced before the court on December 17, 2023.”
Parents, deeply concerned about their children’s well-being, shared their distress, with one stating, “My son refuses to return to school, fearing further abuse. He insists on attending a different school.” Parents united in their call for justice, emphasizing the need for accountability and the safety of their children.
