Arunachal, Assam Reaffirm Peace Along Disputed Border, Plan Joint Patrolling & Community Events

Itanagar: Officials of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining status quo along disputed stretches of the interstate boundary while emphasising dialogue and mutual trust to address the long-pending border issue.

At a meeting held in Narayanpur, North Lakhimpur, on August 28, Papum Pare Deputy Commissioner Vishakha Yadav (IAS) met with her counterparts from North Lakhimpur and Biswanath districts of Assam.

Key decisions from the meeting:
• Both states to uphold peace and maintain status quo in disputed border areas.
• Joint confidence-building measures such as cultural programmes and sports events will be organised to strengthen ties between border communities.
• Joint border patrolling twice a month to prevent untoward incidents.
• The next regional border meeting is scheduled for October 2025.

The move reflects a collaborative approach by the two neighbouring states, seeking to build trust and reduce tensions in sensitive border zones.
