Arunachal Assembly Passes Bill for Creation of Two New Districts

National Desk, 8th February: In a significant move aimed at fostering development and governance, Arunachal Pradesh witnessed the passage of a bill for the creation of two new districts during the ‘Vote-on-Account’ session for the Financial Year 2024-25. The announcement has sparked optimism among citizens, signaling transformative change on the horizon.

The bill, passed on October 8 at the Legislative Assembly, represents a landmark moment in the state’s governance landscape. Governor, in his address to the house, lauded the remarkable progress achieved by the state over the past eight years and emphasized the commitment to sustaining momentum during the interim period.

Joined by key officials including Principal Secretary Finance, Shri Sarath Chauhan, Commissioner (Finance) Smt Y W Ringu, and Secretary Planning & Investment, Shri R K Sharma, the Governor unveiled the names and administrative details of the newly formed districts.

The two new districts will be named Keyi Panyor and Bichom. Keyi Panyor will be carved out from Lower Subansiri, with its headquarters located in Yachuli (Ter Gapin-Sam Sath area). Furthermore, the creation of 67 new posts, spanning Group A, Group B non-gazetted, Group C, MTS, and ALC categories, has been approved for the Keyi Panyor district.

Meanwhile, Bichom district will encompass territories from Nafra, West Kameng, and Lada/Baba, East Kameng. Its administrative hub will be Napangphung. The cabinet has also greenlit various initiatives for Bichom, including funding for the Eklavya Model Residential School in Bana, issuance of Land Possession Certificates (LPCs) for Nyishi-owned land in Aka area, and survey and preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the construction of a road from NH-13 to Richukrong circle headquarters to enhance connectivity.

With the creation of these new districts, the total count of districts in Arunachal Pradesh rises to 28, signifying a strategic step towards decentralized governance and inclusive development.
