Arunachal Assembly’s Budget Session to Commence on Friday, Annual Budget Presentation on July 24

Northeast Desk, 18th July: The budget session of the Arunachal Pradesh assembly is set to commence on Friday, with the annual financial statement for the fiscal year 2024-25 scheduled for presentation on July 24, according to Assembly Secretary Kago Habung.

Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, also holding the Finance and Planning portfolio, will present the budget during the eight-day session, which concludes on July 26. This marks the first budget presentation of the Pema Khandu government following its third term in power.

The session will open with the motion of thanks to the governor’s address delivered during the initial session of the Eighth Legislative Assembly on June 14 and 15 by Governor Lt Gen (Retd) K T Parnaik.

Key legislative activities planned for the session include the tabling of three significant bills on the opening day: ‘The Arunachal Pradesh Amending Bill, 2024’, ‘The Arunachal Pradesh Public Examination (Measures to Prevent Unfair Means in Recruitment) Bill, 2024’, and ‘The Balipara/Tirap/Sadiya Frontier Tract Jhum Land Regulation (Amendment) Bill, 2024’.

Arunachal Assembly Speaker Tesam Pongte chaired a preparatory meeting with the Business Advisory Committee on Wednesday to finalize the session’s agenda. The meeting was attended by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona, Deputy Speaker Kardo Nyigyor, and various MLAs representing different political parties including the ruling BJP, NPP, NCP, and PPA.

All political parties, except the Congress represented by a single MLA, have extended unconditional support to the BJP government in the state. The BJP currently holds 46 seats in the 60-member House, with additional support from NPP (5 seats), NCP (3 seats), and PPA (2 seats), alongside three independent members.
