Arunachal Athletes Shine at Senior Asian Pencak Silat Championship, Winning Bronze Medals

Itanagar: In a remarkable achievement for Arunachal Pradesh, three athletes—Likha Aku, Meta Pao, and Damsop Tungi—each clinched bronze medals while representing India at the 8th Senior Asian Pencak Silat Championship 2024, which concluded on October 16 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Their impressive performances not only showcased their skill and determination but also highlighted the state’s growing prominence in the international sports arena.

The trio was part of a seven-member Arunachal contingent that participated in this prestigious championship, where they faced tough competition from athletes across Asia.

Their victories have generated immense pride within their families and the broader community, signaling a significant milestone for Arunachal Pradesh in the realm of sports.

Kipa Takar, General Secretary of the North East Pencak Silat Federation, expressed his enthusiasm about the athletes’ accomplishments, stating the need for enhanced support for future talent. He proposed the establishment of a dedicated Pencak Silat training center in Itanagar to foster the growth of the sport in the region.

Takar highlighted the importance of this championship, noting that it marked the first time athletes from Arunachal Pradesh represented India at such a significant level.

The achievements of Likha Aku, Meta Pao, and Damsop Tungi serve as an inspiration for aspiring athletes in the state, showcasing the potential for success on the international stage.
