Arunachal Athletes Triumph at North East Pencak Silat League, Securing Seven Medals
Itanagar: A wave of athletic prowess swept through Dimapur, Nagaland, as seven athletes hailing from Arunachal Pradesh distinguished themselves at the ASMITA Khelo India North East Pencak Silat Women’s League. The two-day competition, held on March 17-18, 2025, witnessed the display of exceptional skill and determination, culminating in a commendable medal haul for the Arunachal team.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed his elation via social media, celebrating the athletes’ remarkable performance. “Arunachal shines at ASMITA #KheloIndiaPencakSilat! Our athletes excelled in Dimapur, winning 7 medals!” he posted, highlighting the significance of their achievement on a regional stage.
The Chief Minister further extended his congratulations to the individual medalists, acknowledging their dedication and hard work. “Kudos to Paching Lily, Gyamtu Ligu, Yani Nabam, Likha Aku, Damsop Tungi, Hinium Mama, and Shanti Lochung for making Arunachal proud! Wishing them more success and glory ahead!” he wrote, emphasizing the team’s contribution to the state’s sporting legacy.
Among the medalists, Paching Lily emerged victorious in the Open category, securing a coveted gold medal. Gyamtu Ligu, competing in the 65kg-70kg weight division, and Yani Nabam, in the 50kg-55kg category, both demonstrated exceptional skill, earning silver medals for their efforts.
The bronze medalists, Likha Aku (60kg-65kg), Damsop Tungi (55kg-60kg), Hinium Mama (45kg-50kg), and Shanti Lochung (60kg), each contributed to the team’s overall success, showcasing the depth of talent within Arunachal Pradesh’s Pencak Silat community.
