Arunachal: Authorities Apprehend Suspects in Longding Violence Incident

Northeast Desk, 29th March: In the aftermath of the recent outbreak of violence during the scrutiny of nomination papers in Longding, Arunachal Pradesh, law enforcement officials have taken action by apprehending three individuals believed to be connected to the incident.

The altercation, which unfolded yesterday, led to injuries sustained by Longding Superintendent of Police (SP) Dekio Gumja, following clashes between supporters of the National People’s Party (NPP) and security forces.

Reports indicate that tensions escalated when supporters of NPP candidate Gangdiap Wangsa allegedly instigated the violence by pelting stones at the convoy of Honchun Ngandam, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate and incumbent MLA, as he departed from the Deputy Commissioner’s Office. Ngandam also holds a ministerial position in the state government.

Amidst the chaos, SP Dekio Gumja sustained injuries while attempting to restore order. Security personnel, deployed at the scene, resorted to firing warning shots into the air to disperse the unruly crowd.

Following the incident, authorities have initiated a suo moto case at the Longding Police Station and launched an investigation into the matter. Video footage from the scene is being meticulously analyzed to identify the perpetrators responsible for the violence.

In response to the volatile situation, additional security personnel have been deployed in vulnerable areas within Longding town and its surroundings. Despite these measures, tension persists in the area.

The condition of SP Dekio Gumja, injured during the altercation, has been reported as stable.

To maintain law and order, authorities have imposed Section 144 and issued prohibitory orders in the region. Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation to prevent any further escalation of violence and ensure the safety of residents.
