Arunachal: Banderdewa Police Thwart Major Contraband Smuggling Bid

Itanagar: In a significant stride against the pervasive threat of narcotics, the Banderdewa Police, operating within the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR), on Thursday successfully intercepted an attempt to illegally transport suspected NDPS contraband. The swift and decisive operation, conducted near Niya Colony, led to the seizure of 27.72 grams of the illicit substance and the apprehension of two individuals.

The breakthrough came on the heels of precise intelligence regarding the movement of drugs originating from Nagaon in Assam. A dedicated police team, spearheaded by SI Koj Tada and supported by ASI S.K. Jha, Head Constable T. Bomdom, and Constable R. Tsering, executed the interception flawlessly. The entire operation was conducted under the expert oversight of SDPO Naharlagun, Rishi Longdo, and the Officer-in-Charge of Banderdewa Police Station, Inspector Kipa Hamak.

During the search, officers recovered two soap cases and four vials, all containing suspected narcotic drugs. Following the substantial seizure, a formal case has been registered at Banderdewa Police Station. The case, bearing No. 50/2025, has been filed under Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act, further read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, underscoring the gravity of the offence.

The two arrested individuals have been identified as a 23-year-old male, son of Jainal Abdin, and a 30-year-old male, son of Habij Uddin. Both accused are residents of Bhakatgaon, P.O. Chillangani, P.S. Nagaon (Sadar), Assam, highlighting the inter-state dimension of the drug trade.

Dr. Nyelam Nega, APPS, the Superintendent of Police for ICR, lauded the prompt and well-coordinated efforts of the team involved in the operation. He firmly reiterated the department’s unwavering resolve and dedication to relentlessly combatting the escalating drug menace prevalent in the region. Dr. Nega also issued a fervent appeal to the public, urging them to maintain their vigilance and continue their invaluable cooperation with law enforcement agencies. This collaborative effort, he emphasised, is paramount in the collective pursuit of fostering a drug-free and safer society for all.
