Arunachal: BJP candidate violates MCC, seeks votes from govt officials
Northeast Desk, 27th March: A video clip circulating on social media has stirred controversy around Nyabi Dirchi, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) candidate for the Basar (Leparada) assembly constituency. In the footage, Dirchi is seen allegedly urging government officials to vote in her favor, citing her BJP candidacy as the mandate of the government.
Addressing a public rally in Bale Rijo, Tirbin, on March 23, Dirchi’s remarks, delivered in the Galo language, purportedly include directives for officials, officers, gaon burahs, and gram panchayat members to vote for her. She warns of repercussions for those not complying, hinting at surveillance by BJP operatives.
The incident has raised concerns about the misuse of political power and coercion during elections, prompting scrutiny from the Leparada district election officer and the MCC nodal officer.
Meanwhile, a separate video featuring Chief Minister Pema Khandu has surfaced, wherein he allegedly pledges to boycott Basar for five years if Dirchi faces defeat. Khandu’s remarks add fuel to the controversy, highlighting potential breaches of the MCC.
In another development, Anjaw District Planning Officer (DPO) Marto Dirchi faced suspension for allegedly delivering a political speech in favor of Nyabi Dirchi, violating MCC regulations.
The incidents underscore the need for strict enforcement of election guidelines to ensure fairness and integrity in the electoral process.
