Arunachal: Bomdila Hosts First Bugun Folk Storytelling Competition to Preserve Cultural Heritage

Itanagar: Bomdila in Arunachal Pradesh’s West Kameng district came alive with tradition as it hosted the first-ever Bugun (Khowa) Folk Storytelling Competition at Buddha Park, an event dedicated to preserving and promoting the community’s cultural legacy.

Minister of Art & Culture Dasanglu Pul graced the programme as chief guest, joined by Thrizino MLA Tenzin Nyima Glow, EAC Bomdila Dechin Dokhar, DDSE Bomdila Ribom Gamlin, BJP leaders Bakhetso Towsik, Jajimlu Ama and Ometso Kri, along with ZPMs Rekha Marphew and Shanti Lali. The event was organised by the Rinchen Foundation.

The competition brought to life the timeless stories of the Bugun (Khowa) community, highlighting the rich oral traditions that form an integral part of Arunachal Pradesh’s heritage.

Applauding the efforts of the organising committee, the All Bugun Khowa Society, and the All Bugun Students’ Union, Minister Pul hailed the initiative as a milestone in cultural preservation. She also thanked the people of Bomdila for their warmth and hospitality, while urging the community to continue nurturing and celebrating the traditions that define their identity.
