Arunachal: Borguli Villagers Take Up Eco-Clean Mission with Monthly Drive
Itanagar: Borguli, a village under the Mebo Sub-Division, witnessed a remarkable display of community spirit on Thursday as a dedicated team carried out a large-scale cleanliness drive. The initiative, part of the ongoing Eco-Clean Mebo Mission (ECMM), saw volunteers focus on clearing vegetation and maintaining hygiene along the crucial Mebo-Dhola Road, which connects Old and New Borguli.
The effort was led by Kaling Tayeng, Chairman of Clean Mission Borguli, and saw active participation from the local youth group, Sisang Sirum. This month’s drive, which has become a regular feature, aimed to improve public health and cleanliness in the village. Volunteers, armed with grass-cutting machines, worked throughout the day to clear roadside overgrowth and remove debris, ensuring the area was pristine.
“Our effort is to keep Borguli village neat and clean not only for beautification purposes but for the healthy life of the villagers,” said Tayeng. He further added that the team is striving to make Borguli one of the cleanest villages in the Mebo Sub-Division and East Siang District, drawing inspiration from the success of Silluk village in the same region.
The consistent involvement and commitment of the Borguli team have garnered appreciation from key figures of the ECMM. Mebo MLA Oken Tayeng, the mission’s Chief Patron, and Additional Deputy Commissioner Nancy Yirang, the Chairman, both praised the villagers’ efforts. MLA Tayeng even expressed hope that the group’s tireless contributions would be officially recognised by the district administration in the future.
This cleanliness drive is just one of the many initiatives under the ECMM umbrella. Last November, a project called Mission Ta:tang was launched in Borguli with the support of the Ratan Welfare Society. This eco-friendly endeavour led to the construction of a traditional birdwatching tower along the Siang River and the planting of fruit-bearing trees, with the dual purpose of promoting bird conservation and boosting eco-tourism in the area.
