Arunachal: Changlang Administration Cracks Down on Market Malpractices
Changlang, Arunachal Pradesh – In a significant move aimed at fortifying consumer protection and enhancing market accountability, the Changlang district administration recently conducted a wide-ranging inspection drive across various marketplaces within its jurisdiction. This comprehensive operation, led by Co HQ Millo Uttung and executed under the direct oversight of the Deputy Commissioner of Changlang, meticulously scrutinised 35 retail establishments throughout the district.
The joint task force involved in the inspection unearthed a litany of infractions. Among the key violations identified were businesses operating with expired trade licenses, a notable absence of certain saleable items being listed on existing licenses, and critical deficiencies in product labelling. A substantial quantity of packaged goods were discovered either completely devoid of the mandatory labelling information or bearing markings that were smudged and unreadable, thereby raising serious questions about consumer transparency and product safety. Adding to the concerns, the team also pinpointed expired stamps on weights and measures, hinting at potential irregularities in ensuring fair pricing for customers.
Prompt and decisive action was taken on the spot to address these breaches. Goods found lacking proper labelling or those with ambiguous product details were immediately confiscated. Shopkeepers found in violation were issued stringent directives to renew their outdated trade licenses within a strict one-week timeframe and to ensure that all items being traded were accurately recorded in their respective permits. The administration unequivocally underscored that this inspection serves as a clear indicator of its unwavering dedication to upholding legal compliance, safeguarding the welfare of consumers, and cultivating a responsible retail ecosystem. Authorities have also made it clear that such unannounced inspections will be a continuing feature in the future, designed to further embed transparency and discipline within the commercial landscape of the district.
