Arunachal CM Announces Major Infrastructure and Tourism Boost for Nampong at Pangsau Pass Festival

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has unveiled a comprehensive development package worth ₹43 crore for the Nampong constituency, aimed at preserving historical heritage, enhancing infrastructure, and boosting tourism.

The announcement was made during the Pangsau Pass International Festival (PPIF), which returned after a four-year break, celebrating the region’s cultural and historical significance.

Speaking at the festival, CM Khandu emphasized the importance of Nampong as a historical and economic hub, revealing plans to restore World War II remnants along the historic Stilwell Road. “Nampong holds immense historical value. We will soon engage experts to restore these remnants, transforming the town into a prominent tourism destination,” he said.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to improve connectivity in the Tirap, Changlang, and Longding (TCL) region.

Key projects include the double-lane National Highway connecting Jairampur, Nampong, and Pangsau Pass, as well as the ambitious 2,500-km Frontier Highway from Nafra in West Kameng to Vijaynagar in Changlang. “Under the leadership of our Hon’ble Prime Minister, Arunachal is witnessing unprecedented progress in railway, road, and air connectivity,” Khandu added.

The three-day PPIF, inaugurated by the Chief Minister, showcases the region’s rich heritage with folk songs, traditional sports, and expeditions to historical sites. Khandu described the festival as a perfect blend of culture and economy, creating opportunities for artisans, traders, and entrepreneurs.

During the event, several projects were inaugurated, including:
• Sadbhavna Hall, Nampong
• Divisional Office of Urban Development & Housing, Jairampur
• Upgraded Setong Sena Outdoor Stadium, Jairampur
• Circle Office Building, Rima
• Tourist Lodge, Nampong
• Improved Township Road, Jairampur ADC HQ

Additionally, foundation stones were laid for:
• Rima Village to Longchong road improvement
• Jairampur Supermarket with parking facilities
• Nampong to Tikhak Khamlang PMGSY Road

Khandu also reiterated the government’s focus on localized governance, announcing plans to hold Cabinet meetings in various districts to address region-specific issues.

The announcements mark a significant step forward in preserving Arunachal’s rich heritage and fostering economic growth, positioning Nampong as a key hub for tourism and historical exploration.
