Arunachal CM Mourns Loss of Students, Vows Probe and Accountability

Naharlagun– A tragic incident at St. Alphonsa School in Model Village, Naharlagun, claimed the lives of three Class 9 students and left two others critically injured when a water tank burst during routine school activities. The incident has plunged the school and surrounding community into grief, prompting Chief Minister Pema Khandu to express his heartfelt condolences and pledge swift action.

Taking to his official X handle, the Chief Minister shared his sorrow over the loss, stating, “Deeply saddened by the tragic incident at St. Alphonsa School, Naharlagun, which claimed the lives of three young students and left two others critically injured.” He assured the public that a thorough investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the tragedy and promised that those responsible would be held accountable.

In addition to the investigation, the Chief Minister announced ex gratia support for the families of the deceased and financial assistance for the injured, as per government norms. “We are committed to ensuring justice and extending all possible support. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured and strength to the grieving families in this difficult time,” he added.

Emergency services responded promptly, rushing the injured students to the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS). Despite medical efforts, three students succumbed to their injuries, while two others remain in critical condition under intensive care.

The incident has raised concerns over safety protocols in schools, with calls for immediate measures to prevent such tragedies in the future. As the investigation continues, the government has assured the community of its unwavering commitment to justice and support for the affected families during this devastating time.
