Arunachal CM Pema Khandu Unveils Historic T-55 Tank at World War II Cemetery
Itanagar: In a tribute to India’s military legacy, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu unveiled a decommissioned T-55 Russian-made tank at the World War II Cemetery in Jairampur, Changlang district.
The T-55, inducted into the Indian Army in 1965, is now a historic symbol of the nation’s armoured warfare history.
Sharing the event on social media, Khandu wrote, “Proud to unveil a historic T-55 Russian-made Tank, a war trophy, at the World War II Cemetery, Jairampur in Changlang district. Inducted into the Indian Army in 1965, this tank played a crucial role in our nation’s armoured warfare history. Though now decommissioned, it stands as a testament to the bravery and dedication of our soldiers.”
The unveiling is part of a broader initiative to preserve and honour India’s military heritage. Lt Col TC Tayum, a driving force behind this project, facilitated the display of these tanks in Arunachal Pradesh.
Currently, four tanks have been installed across the state, with plans for a total of eight to be showcased in various locations.
“These tanks, which once roared in battle, will now inspire the spirit of patriotism and nationalism among the people, especially the youth,” Khandu added in his statement.
The T-55 tank, which played a pivotal role during its operational years, now serves as a symbol of courage and resilience, bridging generations and reminding citizens of the sacrifices made by the armed forces. This initiative aims to keep the memory of India’s military heroes alive and instill a sense of pride and patriotism in younger generations.
