Arunachal CM Pushes for Urgent Power Upgrades in Tawang Amid Winter Shortages

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu held high-level discussions with PowerGrid officials on February 7 to accelerate efforts in resolving the persistent electricity shortages affecting Tawang district, particularly during the harsh winter months.

The meeting focused on reviewing the progress of a comprehensive power infrastructure strengthening scheme aimed at upgrading the district’s transmission, sub-transmission, and distribution networks.

Highlighting the urgency of the initiative, CM Khandu stated that the ongoing transmission projects are crucial to stabilizing Tawang’s power supply and alleviating the frequent outages that residents endure. “These projects are vital to addressing the persistent power shortages in Tawang district, especially during the harsh winter months,” he remarked in a social media post, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to expediting the infrastructure upgrades.

Tawang, located at an altitude of approximately 3,048 meters, has long struggled with an unreliable electricity supply due to its challenging terrain and extreme climatic conditions.

The winter months exacerbate these issues, leaving residents to cope with frequent power disruptions that impact daily life and essential services.

While the infrastructural overhaul promises significant improvements in power reliability, the Chief Minister did not disclose specific completion timelines. However, his strong push for fast-tracking the upgrades signals a major step toward ensuring stable electricity for the people of Tawang.
