Arunachal Deputy CM Chowna Mein Hails Union Budget 2025-26 as “Historic”

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein has lauded the Union Budget 2025-26, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1, calling it a “historic move” that will empower the middle class and drive economic growth.

Mein, who also holds the Finance, Planning, and Investment portfolios, expressed his appreciation for the government’s decision to exempt annual incomes of up to ₹12 lakh from taxation. “This is a historic move that truly empowers the middle class! HPM @narendramodi’s visionary leadership continues to bring financial relief and prosperity to millions. A zero-tax slab up to ₹12 lakh is a game-changer, ensuring higher savings and greater economic growth,” he wrote in a social media post.

The budget announcement outlined that for salaried taxpayers, the tax-free income threshold would be ₹12.75 lakh, factoring in the standard deduction.

Sitharaman emphasized that the restructuring of tax slabs would significantly reduce the financial burden on the middle class, leaving more disposable income for household consumption, savings, and investment.

Arunachal Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) president Tarh Nachung echoed Mein’s sentiments, describing the budget as “poor-friendly” and beneficial for marginalized communities.

He highlighted that the tax relief would provide significant savings for government employees in the state, leading to increased spending and an overall boost to the local economy.

Nachung further praised the budget’s strong focus on the MSME sector, stating that it would be instrumental in fostering economic development in Arunachal Pradesh, which currently lacks major industries.

He also commended the government’s emphasis on the agricultural sector, calling it the backbone of the country’s economy.

With a significant focus on tax relief, industry support, and rural development, the Union Budget 2025-26 is expected to create new economic opportunities for Arunachal Pradesh and the rest of the Northeast region.
