Arunachal Deputy Commissioner Inspects NH-415 Amid Landslide Threats
Northeast Desk, 6th July: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Commissioner, Shweta Nagarkoti Mehta, conducted an inspection at National Highway 415 (NH-415) to address the risks posed by continuous rainfall, which has threatened further landslides and mudslides.
In response to the situation, manpower and machinery were immediately deployed. The Highway Department has been instructed to keep personnel and equipment ready at all times. During the inspection, Mehta visited Karsingsa Block Point, where a massive landslide had occurred, and subsequently issued a traffic advisory for the road closure. Traffic has been redirected via an alternative route through Gumto until further notice.
Mehta also inspected the blocked section at 6 Kilo, where debris had accumulated, ensuring assistance in clearing the obstruction. Additionally, the department was directed to clear blockades at the Lekhi area immediately.
The Deputy Commissioner further assessed the state highway from Ganga Lake to Batt village, where multiple landslides had occurred. The Public Works Department (PWD) is actively working to clear the debris and blockades, with traffic moving through the route. Mehta has directed the PWD to continue monitoring and clearing the area, keeping machinery stationed there.
The installation of an alternate water supply pipeline to Itanagar township is ongoing along the same route, alongside road maintenance. Mehta also inspected the alternate PMGSY road through Ganga Batt, assessed its condition, and directed authorities to carry out necessary maintenance.
Emphasizing the diligence of all stakeholders, the DC noted that the electrical department is on the ground conducting restoration work. She urged residents to exercise caution while traveling through these roads and to avoid unnecessary travel.
