Arunachal Earns Global Recognition at UN Biodiversity Convention in Colombia
Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh — Arunachal Pradesh received international acclaim at the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (UNCBD) held in Cali, Colombia, for its exemplary efforts in biodiversity conservation.
The state’s delegation, led by Ngilyang Tam, showcased initiatives that have placed Arunachal Pradesh at the forefront of environmental preservation and sustainable development in India.
Expressing his pride on social media, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu lauded the state’s representation on this global stage. “Proud moment for Arunachal Pradesh! Our delegation led by Shri Ngilyang Tam Ji represented India at UNCBD in Cali, Colombia, showcasing Arunachal’s success stories in biodiversity conservation,” Khandu shared on the microblogging platform X.
Chief Minister Khandu highlighted two of the state’s signature conservation projects — the ‘Snow Leopard Protection’ initiative and the ‘Airgun Surrender Abhiyan.’ The Snow Leopard Protection project focuses on preserving the elusive species and its habitat, while the Airgun Surrender Abhiyan encourages locals to voluntarily give up airguns used for hunting, significantly reducing wildlife hunting in the region.
“From Snow Leopard protection to Airgun Surrender Abhiyan, we’re continuously working towards a greener, sustainable future!” Khandu emphasized.
Arunachal Pradesh’s participation at the UNCBD not only underscores the state’s environmental commitment but also strengthens its position as a leader in biodiversity conservation on an international scale.
