Arunachal: Eco-Clean Mebo Mission Launched to Designate 2025 as ‘Year of Eco-Cleanliness’
Arunachal: The Eco-Clean Mebo Mission (ECMM), a campaign to make 2025 the “Year of Eco-Cleanliness,” was launched with a grand ceremony at Romdum General Ground in Mebo.
Spearheaded by 39th Mebo MLA, Oken Tayeng, the initiative aims to mobilize all villages in Mebo sub-division to actively participate in cleanliness and environmental sustainability activities.
The launch event, held on November 5, was attended by regional leaders, including MLAs Ninong Ering (37th Pasighat West), Tapi Darang (38th Pasighat East), Oni Panyang (40th Mariyang-Geku), as well as prominent officials and community representatives.
During the event, ECMM Chairman Sibo Passing emphasized that the mission’s goal is to build upon the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, which has yet to fully reach some of the region’s rural areas. Passing outlined ECMM’s objectives, stating, “The mission aims to bring real change to every village, with each one taking on specific environmental roles, from tree planting to hunting-free zones.” The villages will work collaboratively, with Ayeng as the “Land of Ketir-Momir Trees,” Bodak as the “Floral Village,” and Mebo itself being named the “Drug-Free Village,” creating a broad-based movement for sustainable development.
Patron of the ECMM, MLA Oken Tayeng, praised the community-driven effort, highlighting that it operates without reliance on government funding. “This mission is driven by the people of Mebo themselves. Voluntary contributions and community participation are the keys to its success, as the benefits will be directly enjoyed by our local communities,” Tayeng remarked. He credited ADC Mebo Sibo Passing and numerous civic groups, such as the Itanagar Mebobian Welfare Kebang and Tayeng Welfare Society, for their commitment to making ECMM a reality.
Adding to the celebration, a vibrant cultural night showcased local talent, including popular regional artists Rupali Payeng, who was named the Mission Ambassador of ECMM, and Delong Padung, who performed a song about the iconic Ketir Momir trees. Through their performances, artists conveyed the beauty of the region and the importance of environmental preservation, inspiring the audience to embrace ECMM’s goals wholeheartedly.
Reflecting on the mission’s long-term impact, visiting MLAs Ninong Ering, Tapi Darang, and Oni Panyang commended the Mebo Administration for envisioning a future where Mebo’s villages not only fulfill cleanliness objectives but also evolve into eco-tourism attractions. The ECMM initiative is set to drive meaningful change in Mebo, bringing lasting improvements to the environment and positioning the region as a model of ecological preservation.
